CRJ 484/584: White Collar Crime

Research Guide for CRJ 484/584

Developing Your Problem & Reform

Step 1: Choose an example of white collar crime (Writing Assignment) or structural problem leading to white collar crime (Legal Paper) that interests you

Step 2: Assess the ways in which your example is the result of "bad apples" versus "decaying roots" (Writing Assignment) or "decaying roots" versus "bad apples" (Legal Paper)

Step 3: Propose legal reforms to alter the corrupt behavior

  • Find and select at least two law review articles
  • Use the scholarly opinions in those law review articles to build your arguments for your proposed legal reform

Write about what interests you: Professors want students to write about issues that they care about. If you're interested in the issues you've selected, it will be more fun for you to write your Writing Assignment and Legal Paper, and probably more fun for Professor Patel to read them, too.

Ask Professor Patel for feedback on your problem and proposed legal reform

Picking Your Topic IS Research

Once you've picked a research topic for your paper, it isn't set in stone. It's just an idea that you will test and develop through exploratory research. This exploratory research may guide you into modifying your original idea for a research topic. Watch this video for more info:
