Mentoring Structure
All new Assistant Professors are matched with a mentoring team that includes:
- Their department chair
- One tenured faculty member from their department
- One tenured faculty member from an adjacent/related department who serves as the mentoring team lead. The lead is responsible for coordinating meetings and receives a small stipend for their work.
Program Organization
The Associate Provost responsible for Faculty Development sets up the mentoring team, taking feedback from the new faculty member, as well as chair/dean input to select appropriate mentors.
Mentoring Team Expectations
- The mentoring team meets monthly during the first year to discuss progress, navigate challenges, and celebrate success. If there are issues in a specific area, the department chair can align resources or adjust teaching schedules based on information at meetings.
- New faculty and their mentoring teams are invited to participate in an event in year 1.
- Mentoring teams will continue to meet at least twice per year in years 2-5.
