Get started with research in music, music history, and other musical topics.

Avoiding Plagiarism

Any time you use words or ideas from another person without giving them credit, that is plagiarism. It doesn't matter if it is a direct quote or a summary.

When in doubt, cite your sources!

Cite Your Sources

To cite your sources, you will need to follow a specific style guide. Music researchers may use a variety of different style guides, so be sure to confirm with your instructor what style guide you are following. Style guides include:

  • American Psychological Association (APA) Style
  • Chicago Manual of Style
  • Modern Language Association (MLA) Style
