How do I create Canvas links to library streaming video, ebooks, and articles that work from off-campus?

Your Canvas links to journal articles, ebooks, and streaming videos need to include UMD library authentication in the URL for them to be accessible off-campus. Students will be prompted to login with their UM-Dearborn uniquename and their Kerberos password - see Online Library Access page for more info.

Go to the Off-Campus Link Tool page on the library website and use the URL Converter to add UM-Dearborn library authentication to your links:

  1. Search the web page of the journal article, video, or e-book for a stable link
  2. If you can't find a stable link, copy the URL in your browser's address bar
  3. Paste the stable link in the URL Converter Tool and click Convert link

Some databases also require students to be on UM-Dearborn VPN to access their journal articles, ebooks, and streaming videos. Go to the Online Library Access page for info and links to ITS VPN installation and troubleshooting pages.
