Considerations when developing your sampling plan

There are several factors that could impact your sample and thus the results you obtain. Be sure you make an intentional decision in each case, and remain consistent in how you treat similar cases throughout the process. You will also need to account for these choices in your explanation of your sampling plan by explaining the decision you made as well as your reason in making that choice.

When you are selecting items to include or exclude from your sample, some extenuating circumstances you may encounter include:

  • Multiple copies
  • Books with software
  • Print books that are also available as an eBook
  • A book with a range of dates in the copyright field
  • Book without a copyright date in the copyright field
