There are 2 ways to search BIOSIS for protocols: search by literature type and search by major concepts. The two searches can give quite different results, so try both searches.
Literature Type
To search BIOSIS for protocols by literature type:
- Make sure you are in Basic Search.
- Type your keyword or concept in the left text box, and make sure "Topic" is selected in the right box.
- Click on "+ Add row".
- Use the drop-down menu to change the right box from "Topic" to "Literature Type".
- Delete "All literature types" from the left box (click the "x"), scroll down, and click on "Protocol".
- Click the "Search" button.

Major Concepts
To search BIOSIS for protocols by Major Concept:
- Make sure you are in Basic Search.
- Type your keyword or phrase in the left text box, and make sure "Topic" is selected in the right box.
- Click on "+ Add row".
- Use the drop-down menu to change the right box from "Topic" to "Major Concepts".
- Type "methods and techniques" (with the quotation marks) in the left box, or choose it from the list.
- Click the "Search" button.
