Considerations on Ceasefire
Public debates over ceasefire are often polarized around assumptions of what is implied by the term “ceasefire.” Scholarship that is not limited to the particular circumstances of specific conflicts offers a sobering insight: de-escalatory processes require a variety of types of negotiated ceasefires. Those negotiations almost always take a long time to produce results even after the political will to seek them exists.
