Creating APA Citations

For this course, you will need to use APA citations. Citing your sources accurately and completely is essential for avoiding plagiarism and allowing others to follow along with your work. When you use someone else's words or ideas, you should create both an in-text citation within the body of your paper and a references list citation at the end of your paper.

There are a number of resources available to help in creating your citations. Two good sources include:

Generating Citations from Mardigian Search

You can access auto-generated citations for your reference list from the Mardigian Search results page. Although these auto-generated citations are a great starting point, you should always double check them for accuracy by cross-referencing the citation with the style guide rules.

Below are step-by-step instructions for generating citations from your Mardigian Search results page.

Once you have located an item you would like to cite, select the quotation mark icon on the right side of the search result:

Citation generation step two

This will open a pop-up. From the pop-up, select APA from the "Choose a citation format" dropdown menu.

This will display the auto-generated citation. You can then copy and paste the citation into your reference page.

Remember, these are computer generated and may be missing information or have formatting errors! Once you have your citation pasted into your reference list, make sure you double check it for accuracy.
