BCHM 496 - Complex Systems

A guide that covers using the library's search engine, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and SciFinder.

Introduction

There are several ways to find journal articles about chemistry-related topics. In class, I demonstrated four:

  • the search box on the library's home page
  • ScienceDirect (one possible publisher's search engine)
  • Google Scholar
  • SciFinder

I also discussed how to find more articles once you have found one that suits your needs. Finally, we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using the different search tools.

Use the links on the left for a refresher on what was covered. I've included tutorials for the search engines. As a bonus, I show how to find articles using a chemical structure search in SciFinder!
