Company Research

There are numerous library databases that provide profiles on specific companies. Below are some suggestions for databases to explore.

D&B Hoovers

D&B Hoovers: Extensive access to public and private company profiles and regularly updated industry profiles. You can also find information about a particular company's main competitors, and SEC filings for public companies.

NOTE: To use D&B Hoovers from off campus, you will need to connect to the campus VPN. Find instructions to get the VPN set up on your device on the ITS VPN Guide page.

D&B Hoovers also allows you to create targeted company lists. Follow the steps below to create a list:

1. Select "Build a Company List."

2. Select and apply criteria of interest in order to build your list. (Criteria is located on the left-hand side of the page).

3. When all criteria is added, Select the blue "View Results" button in the upper right of the page.

4. Check all of the companies that you wish to download.

5. Select the blue "Download" button to format and download your list.

Other Company Databases

Mergent Online: provides access to current and historical financial information on 15,000 U.S. and 20,000 foreign companies, both active and inactive. Included are firm descriptions, statistics, financial information, and annual reports. Mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, long-term debt, bond ratings, capital stock, insider trading, etc. are provided in the company records.

Statista: Provides curated reports that include extensive statistical data on over 600 industries and many companies. The statistics and studies are gathered by market researchers, trade organizations, scientific publications, and government sources, and data is shared in a variety of easy-to-understand formats such as charts and infographics.

Business Insights Global: Provides in-depth information on U.S. and international businesses, industries, and products. Resources include competitive intelligence, market share information and product trends, market-industry information and analysis, and country-based industry reports.
