This guide provides a general overview of library tools to help UM-Dearborn faculty find resources for publishing their research and determining impact factors in their subject field.

What are "predatory publishers"?

In academic publishingpredatory publishing is an exploitative publishing business model that involves charging publication fees to authors without providing the editorial and publishing services associated with legitimate journals (open access or not).

The idea that they are "predatory" is based on the view that academics are tricked into publishing with them, though some authors may e aware that the journal is poor quality or even fraudulent.[a] [2][3]  (Wikipedia, February 2017)
