Find out how a publication is ranked.  The following are ranking and metric resources for journals and books.

Journal Citation Reports - Evaluate and compare journals using citation data drawn from over 11,000 scholarly and technical journals from more than 3,300 publishers in over 80 countries. Journal Citation Reports can show you the most frequently cited journals in a field, highest impact journals in a field, and largest journals in a field (L). - Rankings on the influence of scholarly periodicals offering a rough estimate on how often a journal will be used by scholars (W)

h-index - The h-index quantifies an individual’s research output and measures both their productivity and impact. The index is based on a list of publications ranked in descending order by the number of citations these publications received. The value of h is equal to the number of papers (N) in the list that have N or more citations. (J.E. Hirsch, 2005).  Use the database Web of Science to find the h-index

Google Journal Metrics -  Contains lists of top cited journals in several subject areas (W)

Harzing Journal Quality List - The Journal Quality List contains academic journals in the following: Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, and Marketing (W).

SCImago Journal & Country Rank - The SCImago Journal & Country Rank includes the journals and country scientific indicators developed from the information in the Scopus database. Two metrics: SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) and Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP). SJR is based on times cited, but also uses an algorithm to calculate article influence, which it uses to create rankings. How to guide (W).

Book Citation Index allows cited reference searching of over 30,000 editorially selected books published since 2005 in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities
