COMP 106 - Writing & Rhetoric II

Find, evaluate, and cite sources for The Research Project.

Off-Campus Access

When you are off campus, you will be prompted to prove you're a University of Michigan student, by logging in with:

  • your last name
  • your 8-digit UMID
  • your library PIN

Create and change your library PIN online. Your library PIN is NOT the same as your Kerberos password (which you use to log into Canvas and your U of M Dearborn email). Contact the library's circulation desk at 313-593-5559 during regular library hours if you have any difficulties setting up your Library PIN online.

Search US Government Printing Office

1. How do I find government documents about my topic?

  • Identify the keywords of your topic and use those as your search words.
  • Go to the Federal Digital System (FDsys) search page on the US Government Printing Office Website.
  • Enter words or shorts phrases related to your topic. Then click the "Search" box.
  • Example: The topic for your research project is: Does corn syrup cause obesity? A search about this topic could be corn syrup obesity

2. How do I focus the search results?

  • Use Narrow Your Search on the left hand side to focus your search results further.
