COMP 106 - Writing & Rhetoric II

When you are off campus, you will be prompted to prove you're a University of Michigan student, by logging in with:

• your last name
• your 8-digit UMID
• your library PIN

Create and change your library PIN online. Your library PIN is NOT the same as your Kerberos password (which you use to log into Canvas and your U of M Dearborn email). Contact the library's circulation desk at 313-593-5559 during regular library hours if you have any difficulties setting up your Library PIN online.

Use Summon to search the library's entire collection of books, journals, DVDs and more.

1. How do I search for my topic?

• Identify the keywords of your topic and use those as your search words. 
• Each DVD/video has tags assigned to it, words or shorts phrases that make each book or article searchable - you want your search words to match those tags. 
• Example: The topic for your research project is: Does corn syrup cause obesity? A search about this topic could be corn syrup obesity. 

2. How do I focus the search hits to just DVDs/Videos?

• In the Refine Your Search sidebar:
• Click on Streaming Video and Video Recording under the Content Type heading
• You may have to click the word more . . . to display all the Content Type options.
• If you don't see a Video recording or Streaming Video option, the library does not have a DVD/video on the topic
