Finding News Articles

The library has access to over 150 news-related databases. These databases include articles and other content from newspapers, news sites, magazines, and wire feeds. These databases are searchable by publisher, time, or keyword(s), and include full-text access to content, avoiding paywalls. This page provides an overview of selecting a news database and strategies for searching. 

Suggested Databases

Below are a few suggested news databases to try. These databases have broad coverage, so they are a good place to start. You can view the full list of news databases here


ProQuest US Newsstream: Includes robust recent US news content, as well as archives which stretch back into the 1980s featuring newspapers, newswires, blogs, and news sites in active full-text format. ProQuest US Newsstream also offers access to local and regional newspapers, and is cross-searchable on the ProQuest platform.


Factiva: Along with company and industry financial data, Factiva also includes full text articles from 6,000 trade publications, newspapers, newswires, and magazines. 


Infotrac Newsstand: Provides access to more than 1,000 major U.S. regional, national, and local newspapers as well as leading titles from around the world.

Example Searching in News Databases

The videos below briefly demonstrate how to use some of the advanced search features in several news databases. The example searches show how to search for a specific subject using keywords while also limiting results to specific locations.
