LIBR 465: Literature for Children

This course, designed for librarians, supervisors, and teachers in the elementary school, is about the evaluation of books for children aged three through twelve.

John Newbery Medal - awarded to the author of the best children's book

Randolph Caldecott Medal - awarded to the illustrator of  the best artwork in a children's book

Pura Belpre Book Award - awarded to the Latino/Latina writer and illustrator of the best children's book portraying Latino cultural experience

Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) Book Award - awarded to the author and illustrator of the best beginning reader

Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award - awarded to the author of the best nonfiction book

Laura Ingalls Wilder Book Award - awarded to the author or illustrator whose books have made a substantial and lasting contribution over a substantial period of time to children's literature

Coretta Scott King Book  Award - awarded to the African-American writer and illustrator of the best children's book portraying African-American cultural experience

Schneider Family Book Award - awarded to an author or illustrator for a childen's book that embodies an artistic expression of the disability experience
