2021 CALL FOR OER GRANT PROPOSALS
The cost of textbooks has become a significant barrier to student success and learning. The goal of the UM-Dearborn Open Educational Resources (OER) Grant Initiative is to support the adoption, adaptation, and use of OER by UM-Dearborn faculty/instructors and encourage their use to positively impact students.
Piloted with CASL faculty and a total fund of $5,000 in 2018-2019, the OER Grant Initiative led to the replacement of commercial textbooks and course materials in several key courses. In 2019-2020, the OER Task Force expanded the grants to all UM-Dearborn faculty/instructors with a total fund of $10,000 - doubling the pilot effort. Over the past 3 years, the program has yielded an estimated $236,000 in savings for UM-Dearborn students.
For 2021-2022, OER grants are once again available to all UM-Dearborn faculty/instructors. Faculty/instructors may apply for any of the three different categories of grants ranging in awards from $500 to $2,000 to implement OER in their courses.
