UM-Dearborn Open Education Campus Committee Resources

Every year in March, OE Global hosts a week-long global event called Open Education Week. Its goal is to raise awareness, showcase initiatives, and celebrate the impact of open education on teaching and learning worldwide. During Open Education Week, educators organize and conduct online and local events such as workshops, webinars, discussions, debates, and other activities for the public or specific audiences, such as faculty or students. All these events are listed on OE Global’s open education week website, providing a forum for promotion, participation, and curation.

Open Education Week has been running since 2013 and, over the years, has become a landmark event people plan for and anticipate. Open education week is one of the foremost global community events raising awareness and showcasing exemplary open education work worldwide.

Open Education Week 2024 is taking place from March 4-8, 2024.

UM-Dearborn Open Education Week Events

• Monday 3/4/24 11:30am-1:30pm @ RUC: Student OER Awareness & Advocacy

  • We’ll be on hand to build student awareness about OER and their role in advocacy, and we’ve got stickers! Drop by our table in the RUC near the yellow entrance to chat with us.

• Wednesday 3/6/24 10am-11am @ Zoom: UM-Dearborn OER Faculty Panel 

  • Our annual panel featuring UM-Dearborn faculty members who will speak about their work with open resources.

• Thursday 3/7/24 4-6 pm @ ML 1st Floor: OE Committee Social

  • Come for refreshments and to engage with UM-Dearborn community members about open education in a relaxed setting.  No prior knowledge or experience with OE is needed, and all students, staff and faculty are welcome!

• Wednesday 3/6/24 1pm-2pm @ Zoom: MiALA Panel "Beyond Access Codes: Open Homework Alternatives" 

  • Faculty and student panelists from several Michigan higher education institutions will share their experiences with course access codes and converting to open and low-cost homework systems.

• Thru 4/1/24: MiALA MI ExplOER Certification Challenge (self-paced online OER training)

  • Current faculty and staff at a Michigan college or university who complete the eight self-paced online modules to earn a certificate before April 1, 2024, are eligible for a drawing to win one of four $100 gift cards.
