Starting Your OER Search
Not sure on where to get started searching for OER? We often recommend starting with one of these two repositories, as well as using the OASIS search tool (below).
-
OER CommonsOER Commons is a public digital library of open educational resources. Explore, create, and collaborate with educators around the world to improve curriculum.
-
Open Textbook LibraryOpen textbooks are textbooks that have been funded, published, and licensed to be freely used, adapted, and distributed. These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality. These books can be downloaded for no cost, or printed at low cost. All textbooks are either used at multiple higher education institutions; or affiliated with an institution, scholarly society, or professional organization. The Open Textbook Library is supported by the Center for Open Education and the Open Education Network.
OASIS Search
OASIS is a user-friendly search tool that allows you to find OER from a variety of sources. It's a recommended place to begin searching, especially if you're new to OER. It's not as comprehensive as the Mason OER Metafinder, found below.

Developed by SUNY Genesco in collaboration with SUNY OER Services, the Openly Available Sources Integrated Search (OASIS) allows users to search through 155,000+ openly available records from 52 different sources.
Mason OER Metafinder
The Mason OER Metafinder (MOM) is a very powerful OER search engine that searches across multiple OER repositories. It's highly recommended for complex searches.

A Quick Guide to Getting Started with OER 2020
-
A Quick Guide to Getting Started with OER at UM-Dearborn in 2020Textbook affordability and access have been and continue to be serious issues for many students at UM-Dearborn. To address this, the UM-Dearborn OER Task Force, in conjunction with the librarians at the Mardigian Library and the instructional designers at the Hub for Teaching and Learning, has put together the following information to guide your selection, evaluation, and integration of free, open source, electronic textbooks, as well as an array of the library’s journal articles, eBooks, and streaming films which are already built into the cost of student tuition. Together, both OER textbooks and library materials can provide you and your students in Summer II and Fall 2020 with high-quality electronic resources easily integrated into Canvas at no additional cost. Please read through the information in this short document, compiled and organized by members of the OER Task Force, and make use of other resources in this Subject Guide.
